Graphic T-shirts: A Statement Piece to Add to Your Wardrobe

Looking for more ways to make a statement with your look? A graphic tee might be your answer!

As an avid graphic tee wearer, I totally understand that not everyone shares the same excitement - we have our own little niche 😉. Graphic tees are not everyone’s cup of tea, but it could do the trick if you’re looking to add a little ✨sparkle✨ to your outfit and your day.

I have always enjoyed wearing graphic t-shirts as a means of creative expression, especially on days when I feel a bit blah. I can showcase my favorite artists, my sense of humor, my mood of the day 😅, and my overall personality in a playful way. And from personal experience, they have a way of starting a few memorable interactions with strangers 😂

Check out our graphic t-shirt finds below! It flows from Spring to Summer , to Autumn , to Winter .

If you’d like to hear more about the evolution of graphic t-shirts and how to pick the perfect one to align with your style read on below!

History behind the Graphic T-shirt:

Graphic tees have had quite the evolution. Looking back in time, the standard t-shirt that was worn by the army and servicemen found itself decorated with official logos and distinct markers.

What was initially meant and valued for its functionality found itself and its concept in the hands of everyday civilians. The t-shirt became a blank canvas for anything from cultural references, music appreciation, political and social movements, etc.

Now, graphic tees have trickled up from urban fashion to high fashion and have successfully imprinted themselves as a major part of fashion.

Are Graphic T-shirts for you?

Wearing a graphic t-shirt might seem too trendy or completely off-brand for you, but trust me on this—it’s totally possible to dress like YOU with a graphic tee. Here are some of the things you should consider:

#1 Do you gravitate towards bold or subtle graphics?

We know that based on our color palettes there are certain scales of patterns that suit us best, but on a personal level what naturally catches your eye and makes you excited? For example, out of the options below, which would you choose:

  1. Quotes (Bold lettering, script lettering, etc.)

  2. Large scale artwork (either in front or back of shirt)

  3. Medium scale artwork

  4. Dainty artwork

Remember, a statement piece speaks for itself no matter how bold. Choose what feels most like you!

#2 Consider the fit and shape of the t-shirt.

Personally, I love the fit of classic t-shirt, but graphic tee’s come in all shapes and styles: drop shoulder, cropped, slim-fit, baby-tees, oversized.  Pick the one that makes you feel most confident! Don’t be afraid to experiment- thanks to Kim, my eyes have been opened to the effortlessly relaxed look drop shoulder tees give!

How else can you achieve your desired fit? There’s a few ways you can manipulate your t-shirt effortlessly: rolling/cuffing the sleeves, a full tuck, a front tuck, or even a front knot. Also, don’t just limit yourself to the women’s section, the men’s section is full of gems, too!

#3 What layering/complementary pieces do you already have in your closet?

Remember, there’s a difference between wearing and styling your clothes!

When shopping for anything new, especially items that might be out of our comfort zone ( color, style, etc.), we want to make sure we think in terms of our best colors and outfits that most authentically align with our style. Like any new item we introduce to our wardrobe, there can be a slight learning curve or a few stumbling blocks, and graphics t-shirts are no exception, haha!

Most graphic tees come in shades of white, gray or black. If the graphic on your tee isn’t large enough where your best colors can be immediately identified, in addition to the base color not being one of your best neutrals or power colors there’s a higher chance of you being washed out. We want to do everything to prevent that and keep YOU in focus.

💡Keep this in mind: Since the base color of your t-shirt will have the biggest impact on your features, it is important to try to select a base color within your palette.

Neutrals that will work for you:

  • Navy and soft white are typically universally flattering neutrals

  • If you are Cool-toned lean into the cool whites, black, and grays

  • If you are Warm-toned lean into tans, ivory, and browns

On the other hand, you might just not know where to start in terms of styling the t-shirt. Whether you’re looking to lean into your classic, flirty, or edgy style, the key to your desired look and confidence is already in your closet.

To make a graphic tee feel more like you, integrate the things you already have: jewelry, cardigans, your best denim, leather jackets, bottoms (skirt, shorts, pants) and dresses in your best colors. Get inspired by these looks using pieces from our past capsules!
